2021 Polymethyl methacrylate Market Development Report

Posted time:2021-12-17 View:199

Hui is information: polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), commonly known as plexiglass. Polymethyl methacrylate can be cast, injection molding, extrusion, hot molding and other processes to form the final product. PMMA production technology includes bulk polymerization, suspension polymerization, solution polymerization and so on.

Analysis and forecast of world polymethyl methacrylate supply and demand

The world PMMA production capacity will reach 3.127 million tons/year in 2020. The vast majority are used to produce PMMA resin, and the final product is acrylic sheet. PMMA manufacturers are mainly located in Asia, North America and Western Europe. Northeast Asia is the region with the largest PMMA capacity in the world. The top five PMMA producers in the world by production capacity are Chimei, Mitsubishi Rayon (including Lucite), Evonik, Arkema and Sumitomo Chemical. The advertising industry and the construction field are the two most widely used fields in the downstream PMMA, and the automobile and home appliances are the third and fourth application fields.

Total international trade in PMMA reached $1.16 billion in 2019, with a total trade volume of 510,000 tons. In terms of price, the world average PMMA export price is $2276.7 / ton. China, India and Malaysia are the world's major PMMA importers. South Korea, Singapore and Saudi Arabia are the world's major PMMA exporters.

The world demand for PMMA has maintained rapid growth. Construction and advertising continue to drive demand growth for PMmas. The future demand of other application fields will grow at an average annual rate of 3% ~ 4%, which is relatively stable. The construction sector is losing its share of demand to optical media and other downstream sectors. As world economic and population growth slows, products that improve the quality of life, such as cars, television sets and medical equipment, will see faster growth.

Supply and demand situation and forecast of polymethyl methacrylate in China

The PMMA market in China is in great demand, and the operating rate of enterprises usually maintains a high level. In 2020, China's PMMA production capacity remained stable, with output rising 4.4 percentage points year on year. The apparent consumption and self-sufficiency of PMMA in China increased in 2020 compared with the previous year. Due to technical limitations, PMMA manufacturers in China mostly produce general grade products. The low-end is oversupplied, the high-end is undersupplied, and the demand needs to be met by imports. Such as high quality optical grade and impact grade PMMA still mainly rely on imports.

PMMA imports in 2020 decreased by 7.3% year-on-year; Imports fell 17.6 per cent year on year. 21,000 tons of PMMA will be exported in 2020. General trade, accounting for 75.2% of the total trade volume, ranked the most in China's PMMA import trade mode in 2020. The second is processing trade of imported materials, accounting for 19.1% of the total trade volume. China's PMMA imports mainly come from South Korea, Japan and Singapore.

PMMA has good post-processing properties. Downstream is widely used in construction, photoelectric, lighting, transportation, medicine and other fields. The construction sector accounted for 43% of China's consumption, while the photoelectric sector accounted for 24%.

China has no plans to add new production capacity in the next two years. Future development opportunities of PMMA mainly lie in optical-grade PMMA, which has a large supply gap and broad application prospect in China.

And that's all for today.
